It's important to offer several levels of conversion on your website.  As trust builds people will become more willing to share more information with you.

Early in the relationship or information gathering and forms should be light.  As a visitor progresses you can ask for more information.

 

Downloads

A great way to encourage a visitor to submit their details through a form is to give them something of value in return.

Your industry may have specialist compliance, or users might want to discover tips and tricks to increase efficiency, get better results or simply have more fun!  Tapping into the information your persona needs will help you increase conversions.

Landing Pages

Guiding people to a page that is focused on giving the user nothing to do but convert will also increase conversion rates.

Use landing pages to create a clutter-free, focused area for a prospect to weigh up the value in exchanging their details for knowledge.  Strip out header and footer menus to reduce temptation.

 

Calls To Action (CTA)

Giving a visitor very clear points to take action can also help increase conversion ratios.  Buttons throughout that website that lead a prospect to content will help.

CTA buttons should be easy to read and used relatively sparingly.  Giving people too many actions is more likely to confuse and confound than convert them.

 

Database

Having a really good Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system for contacts to be entered into when they convert is key.

Your forms should automatically add people to save double handling and it should segment people based on what they've downloaded and the persona they fill.  This will also make it easier to close these contacts into Deals.
